Researching the Portable Classroom...

When doing some research on Portable Classrooms I found some interesting pictures, which maybe be helpful.

The above two images show a panel system which can be manipulated to create a different sized and shaped classrooms.

The above image is of a structure which i found while searching the web. The exterior structure would compact down to a smaller size which would make for easy transport. It is also a strong structure.

And they are of a product which they produce which is known as the portable outdoor classroom. They are extremely portable and very strong.

The above two images show the interior of the space and the space being used as a classroom.

Esquisse 1: A RARE Concept

In a group of Alex Dickson, Ashleigh Graystone and myself, we investigated ways to produce a space which was adaptable. Using paper we folded a fan like structure, which could fold away and smaller or larger spaces could be made. The images below are of the model which we as a group constructed.

After constructing the model all the groups came together to discuss a selection of models which had been produced during the tutorial.

Some of the adaptability mode which were discussed by the students and tutors were:
  1. Modules - Repetitions
  2. Archi-origami - Folding planes
  3. Balloon
  4. Pneumatic slinky/Slinky Structure
  5. Pop-up book construction
  6. Concertina
  7. Pastry Cutting
  8. Tensile-organic
  9. Collapsible Box
  10. Umbrella
